The main line has a total length of 214.35 kilometers, with a total investment of 19.076 billion yuan. Construction began in 2011 and was completed and opened to traffic at the end of 2017. It is the longest and largest investment project among the proposed/under-construction expressways in Guangxi.

The service areas along the Liuwu Expressway include, in order: Liuzhou Service Area, Xiangzhou East Service Area, Panwang Service Area, Pingnan North Service Area, Heping Service Area, and Lingjiao Service Area — six in total. The expressway winds through mountain streams, with some service areas built against the mountains. All service areas use groundwater sources, which have high hardness levels and fail to meet domestic drinking water standards.
