Lingyun County covers an area of 2,053 square kilometers and governs 8 townships (including 5 Yao ethnic townships) and 110 administrative villages (communities). It is an ancient cultural city with a history of nearly a thousand years as a prefecture, prefectural seat, and county seat. The altitude of Lingyun County ranges from 210 to 2,062 meters. There are 365 centenarians in Lingyun County, a proportion of the population higher than the recognized standard for world longevity regions. It is China's first "National Off-site Longevity Retirement and Health Preservation Base," enjoying the reputation of being a "Mountain Water Town, Ancient Prefecture Lingyun, and Livable Paradise."

The installation site for this project is Lanjin Primary School in Lingyun County, located halfway up a mountain on the outskirts of the county town. This school was funded and supported by Shenzhen as part of a poverty alleviation initiative. Due to its remote location and mountainous terrain, the students' drinking water needs are primarily met by tap water, which is filtered and disinfected through an integrated direct drinking water system before being piped to consumption points for the students.The school's water source comes from municipally treated water. Although municipal water meets the standards for residential use, long-distance transportation through urban pipelines can inevitably lead to secondary contamination, and it falls far short of the national standards for direct drinking water quality.

The water produced by the school's previous purification equipment was not satisfactory.
